Born in the Southwest of England, my first deaf school was the Royal School for the Deaf in Exeter (1969-1976) then moved to a deaf Grammar school in Newbury, the Mary Hare School (1976-1982) in which I achieved 7 O-levels.
Currently, I am a self-employed energy assessor issuing the EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) on properties before sale or rent. Previously, I worked on a farm (from my parents’ roots as they were farmers) and later became a litho printer. Also, I am a qualified computer programmer and bookkeeper.
I am currently the Chairperson of Mary Hare Alumni Association, and we have just set up a new Archives Committee (about 2/3 years now) to oversee our merchandise and heritage collection and work with the school. We are hoping to set up a museum to store our MH memorabilia at the school grounds in the future. We have only just started and there is still a lot to go but it is very rewarding to be part of the Archives section. I am delighted to be part of the BDHS and contribute any value, wisdom and knowledge.
In my spare time, I love doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with my lovely wife and family (and dog, of course!). Also, I have a huge passion for cricket (deaf and hearing). I have run the ECAD North section in the last few years but sadly it has ceased. Also, I arranged a Deaf Roses cricket match a few years ago.
